Who is the New Distracted Driver?

Young Drivers of Canada Identifies The New Distracted Driver

In a recent Maclean’s article, Angelo DiCicco from Young Drivers of Canada discussed the new distracted driver, and he’s not just texting at the wheel. In the article, Mr. DiCicco a 30-year veteran driving instructor with Young Drivers identifies a new type of driver, the “me-first” driver who is assertive and aggressive, impatient with others on the road. The “me-first” driver, according to Mr. DiCicco behaviour is dangerous. These types of drivers disregard basic road safety, including lane-hogging and running red lights. A culture of driving entitlement has surfaced, contrary to the spirit of co-operation needed to travel on the roadways.

In the article, the veteran driving instructor wants drivers to learn “traffic emotions management”, refining what it means to be a good driver. It isn’t just about the vehicle, it is about the operation of that vehicle, co-operating with those who share the roadways.
