What do Tesla Self-Driving Cars See While on the Road?

In October, Tesla confirmed that all of their new vehicles would be equipped with technology that would allow them to drive on their own. The company released a video which showcased the technology. The company also released some footage which showed what the car itself sees as it drives under the autonomous technology.

Elon Musk, Tesla’s CEO tweeted the video. The footage showed a passenger sitting in the driver’s seat (required by law) while the vehicle navigates itself in traffic, stop lights and other conditions before it parks itself.

The video also shows the view from the interior of the vehicle, showing what the rear camera, the side cameras see as well. The video footage shows a kaleidoscope of colours, representing what the vehicle sees and also coloured boxes which represent objects in the path of the vehicle such as other vehicles and people.

According to Tesla, the new cars will be equipped with an onboard computer that has 40 time the computing power to process the sonar, radar and vision imagery the vehicle “sees”
